Your First Visit

Many of our new patients have not been to the dentist in a while. But even the ones who keep up with their routine checkups and cleanings aren’t always sure that they’re getting the holistic care they deserve. At Family Dental of Spokane Valley, we care for the total body health of our patients, taking all aspects of their wellness into account to ensure only the healthiest decisions are made.

The first time you visit us at Family Dental of Spokane Valley, you’ll feel at home in our comfortable waiting area equipped with couches, soft chairs, and a television to keep you entertained. When it’s time for your appointment, you’ll be brought to your personal treatment room where you’ll be offered a pillow and sunglasses in case you need some extra help feeling at ease.

Once you’re settled in, we will discuss your health history, past dental experiences, and any anxieties you may have about dental care. We want to get to know you, which includes discussing the expectations you have for us. Both Dr. Ellsworth and Dr. Hill take the time to understand what you need and explain your treatment options. We never pressure our patients into treatment they don't want or need, and we encourage you to take an active role in your oral health.

From the considerate care you receive in our office, to the hand-written thank you letter you’ll get afterwards, you can expect to be treated as a valued part of our community!

We Don’t Rush Your Care

Because we wish to carefully evaluate the health history and dental care needs of our new patients, please reserve approximately 90 minutes for your first visit with us. First, we will take a set of x-rays to provide a comprehensive view of your entire mouth, including the roots of your teeth and your jawbones. Then, a periodontal exam will follow to evaluate your gum health and to screen for gum recession. If your gums have no swelling or deep pockets, we will continue with a preventive cleaning.

The Building Blocks of Overall Health

Before regular oral care, your gums need to be healthy. If there’s evidence of gum disease or inflammation, we’ll be required to take a different approach. In these situations we tend to perform a full debridement on the day of your visit and then schedule a deep cleaning for another day. After all, your gums are the foundation to your entire smile! Keeping them healthy is important to your overall wellness, cardiovascular system, respiratory health, and more.
